Rankin has extensive involvement in water supply and engineering services ranging from rural ground water investigations to design and rehabilitation of water distribution networks for major urban centres. Recent projects include rehabilitation work in fourteen major cities in Zambia. In addition, Rankin has been involved in peri-urban water supply design in over twenty townships in Lusaka, Southern, Copperbelt and Luapula provinces. Consultancy services in peri-urban areas are not limited to pure engineering work but include community mobilisation and sanitisation, as well as stakeholder participation in the decision process.

Rankin has identified over 300 borehole sites in Zambia from sites at rural institutions to major production holes in urban centres and has supervised the drilling, casing and equipping of more than 500 boreholes with handpumps, submersible pumps and windmills.

Our design and construction management service in building and rehabilitating dams has continued to develop in accordance with our integration philosophy. Rankin has carried out field surveys, site inspections, soil investigations, engineering designs of water and tailings dams and rehabilitation work where dam integrity is compromised. Overall, Rankin has been involved in the design, construction supervision and rehabilitation of more than 40 dams.

Rankin has also participated in numerous sanitation programs, including rehabilitation of sewer networks in more than fifteen cities and ten peri-urban settlements in the country, as well as participating in pro-active community-based solid-waste-management programs. Among the designs undertaken have been sewer reticulations, oxidation ponds, waste containment structures, landfills, etc.
